Sophie Turner to Play Jewel Thief in Anna Symon’s “Joan” Series

Turner in "Do Revenge"

Sophie Turner has bid the Iron Throne adieu but is still vying for more power and influence. The “Game of Thrones” alumna will be starring in upcoming crime drama “Joan.” Created by “Mrs. Wilson” writer Anna Symon, the ITV series follows the exploits of infamous British jewel thief Joan Hannington, per Deadline.

Set in ‘80s London, “Joan” sees Turner playing a young mother who strives for a better life for herself and her daughter after her violent, fugitive husband disappears. To this end, Joan gradually transforms herself into a professional diamond thief and criminal mastermind.

“I’m so excited to be bringing Joan Hannington’s fascinating life story to screen in ‘Joan,’” said Turner. “She is one of the most notorious figures in the criminal underworld of London, earning her the nickname ‘The Godmother.’” She described Hannington as a woman “who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all whilst trying to get her daughter back from social services” and a “mother in despair swept up in the exhilarating world of crime.”

Penned by Symon, “Joan” is based on Hannington’s memoir, “I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain’s Most Notorious Jewel Thief.” Filming in London will begin next year.

Turner was last seen in Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s “Do Revenge,” a dark comedy starring Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes as highschoolers who agree to take on each other’s bullies. She also recently appeared in HBO drama “The Staircase.”
