The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) will celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring veteran producer Stephanie Allain and Madeline Di Nonno of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. According to Deadline, the AAFCA will recognize Allain and Di Nonno at free public events in Los Angeles and Atlanta, respectively, on March 23.
“Both Madeline and Stephanie epitomize the resiliency and excellence women have long demonstrated within the industry,” stated AAFCA President Gil Robertson. “AAFCA is honored to be able to share their genius on the same day in two different cities and show young people in particular, women especially, that their future in Hollywood is especially bright.”
Homegrown Pictures founder Allain will talk about what brought her to Hollywood, producing projects such as “Dear White People” and “Beyond the Lights,” and her time as an exec, including greenlighting “Boyz n the Hood,” at LA’s Egyptian Theatre Hollywood. One of Allain’s latest projects, Alfre Woodard-starrer “Juanita,” will also screen.
Di Nonno will discuss the significance of women in cinema during a day of “programming celebrating and exploring the female presence in media” at Atlanta’s Auburn Avenue Research Library. As chief executive officer at the Geena Davis Institute, Di Nonno handles the org’s research, advocacy, and strategic direction. She has a background in Hollywood and has overseen digital content platforms, global marketing, franchise development, and more for home entertainment and limited theatrical runs.
