PYPO, the multi-platform comedy network for women founded by Emmy winner Stephanie Laing, has partnered with Norwegian Air. According to a press release, the airline’s flights will feature exclusive PYPO content as their onboard entertainment beginning March 2018. The deal will also see PYPO “produce a unique event for Norwegian in early 2018” as well as potentially develop Norwegian Air-specific programming.
“We are very happy to have Norwegian as the first airline to dedicate a channel for PYPO on their flights, a channel for their female passengers to laugh and be entertained. As a frequent flyer and a woman, I appreciate an airline catering to my needs,” Laing commented.
“We are truly excited to partner with Stephanie Laing and PYPO, which is a whole new direction for Norwegian. Together we will be able to bring our passengers fresh content,” added Anders Lindström, Norwegian’s Director of Communications, USA. “We’re very pleased to be able to partake in Stephanie’s creative world and having something so unique produced for us.”
Designed for women “who are taking control of the conversation,” PYPO’s website produces original programming and editorial content. Each week the network chooses a topic to delve into via its content and social media. PYPO’s goal is to build “a place for women who are looking for a new narrative; one that speaks directly to who they are, and what they want.”
Rose Byrne (“Bridesmaids”), singer-songwriter Norah Jones, Michaela Watkins (“Casual”), comedian Kathy Griffin, and Mo Gaffney (“Ab Fab”) are among the stars of PYPO programming. PYPO directors include Laing, Susan Jacobson (“The Holding”), Gracie Otto (“The Last Impresario”), and Camille Solari (“A Tale of James Brown”).
Laing is PYPO’s creative director. She has helmed the short “Trouble & the Shadowy Deathblow” and two episodes of “Veep” as well as produced projects like “Vice Principals,” “Divorce,” and “Banshee.” Laing’s feature directorial debut — the Gugu Mbatha-Raw romantic drama “Irreplaceable You” — is currently in post-production.
