Carrie Brownstein and Saint Vincent — AKA Annie Clark — have found a home for their big-screen collaboration. The multi-hyphenates’ meta comedy “The Nowhere Inn” will be released by IFC Films in fall 2021, a press release announced. The film made its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival back in January.
Penned by Brownstein and Clark, “The Nowhere Inn” sees the musicians and real-life friends playing “two creative forces banding together to make a documentary about St. Vincent’s music, touring life, and public persona. But they quickly discover unpredictable forces lurking within subject and filmmaker that threaten to derail the friendship, the project, and the duo’s creative lives,” the pic’s synopsis details.
Clark, whose most recently dropped the 2017 album “Masseduction,” composed all of the film’s original music, and she and Brownstein are among “The Nowhere Inn’s” producers.
“Carrie Brownstein and Annie Clark brilliantly push the boundaries of how we communicate through film, music, and comedy as only true artists can. We’re thrilled to take viewers to ‘The Nowhere In’ and bring this unique and hilarious film to audiences and fans nationwide,” said Arianna Bocco, President at IFC Films.
Brownstein and Clark added, “We are extremely proud of what we’ve created with ‘The Nowhere Inn.’ And we couldn’t imagine a better home and partner for it than IFC Films.”
Best known as a member of Sleater-Kinney and the co-creator and star of “Portlandia,” Brownstein’s other on-screen credits include “Carol” and “Transparent.” Also a director, the Emmy winner’s packed slate includes “Rodeo Queens,” a mockumentary-style series about Rodeo Queen hopefuls that’s in development at Amazon Studios, and a Heart biopic.
Clark is a two-time Grammy winner. The former Polyphonic Spree member released her debut solo album, “Marry Me,” in 2007.
