Supergirl is already saving lives on the small screen, but it looks like Kara Zor-El will be flying all the way to multiplexes around the world. Warner Bros. and DC are developing a feature based on the comic book hero. Deadline broke the news.
Very little is being divulged about the project and no producers are attached, but Oren Uziel (“The Cloverfield Paradox,” “22 Jump Street”) is working on the script. “The studio is a ways away from what likely will be a search to get a female director,” the source details.
Supergirl hails from the planet Krypton and is Superman’s cousin. Her powers include superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to fly.
“Glee” alumna Melissa Benoist toplines The CW’s “Supergirl.” The series concluded its third season in June, and will be returning for its fourth run October 14. Nicole Maines (“Bit”) is joining the cast and will make history as TV’s first transgender superhero.
Upcoming Warner Bros/DC films include “Wonder Woman 1984,” which sees Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins re-teaming, and an untitled ensemble of female antiheroes helmed by Cathy Yan (“Dead Pigs”).
