“I’m young. I’m a movie star. What matters is staying sane,” says Alicia Vikander in a new trailer for “Irma Vep.” Based on the 1996 French film of the same name and spearheaded by its writer and director, Olivier Assayas, the HBO series tells the story of Mira, a disillusioned actress who is tired of playing superheroes. She’s been dying to take the lead in “Irma Vep,” a remake of “Les Vampires,” a classic silent French film.
The film’s production is full of drama. She describes the filmmaker’s process as “confusing,” but it looks like he could also be physically and emotionally abusive to the cast and crew. “Mira struggles as the distinctions between herself and the character she plays begin to blur and merge,” the project’s synopsis teases. “‘Irma Vep’ reveals to us the uncertain ground that lies at the border of fiction and reality, artifice and authenticity, art and life.”
Vikander won an Oscar for “The Danish Girl.” Her other credits include “The Green Knight,” “The Glorias,” and “Tomb Raider.”
“Irma Vep” premieres on HBO June 6 and and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
