“Something unexpected has come up,” announces Cate Blanchett in a teaser for “Where’d You Go, Bernadette?” “There’s much more explanation coming, but I have this one shot.” We never learn what came up, or hear further explanation. Bernadette (Blanchett) simply disappears.
Bernadette is the kind of mom who watches her teenage daughter (Emma Nelson) sleeping, and has the kind of husband (Billy Crudup) who gushes about her talent and beauty. The family seems happy. But whatever pulls Bernadette away proves too tempting to resist. “Just thinking about it has got my heart racing,” she says.
“The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” “Ocean’s Eight,” and “Thor: Ragnarok” are among Blanchett’s recent credits. She won Oscars for her roles in “Blue Jasmine” and “The Aviator” and received nods for “Carol,” “Elizabeth: The Golden Age,” “I’m Not There,” “Notes on a Scandal,” and “Elizabeth.” Her upcoming projects include Lucille Ball biopic “Lucy and Desi” and FX’s “Mrs. America,” a limited series about conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly.
Based on Maria Semple’s best-selling book, “Where’d You Go Bernadette” is directed by Richard Linklater and written by Linklater (“Boyhood”), Holly Gent (“Me and Orson Welles”), and Vince Palmo. The dramedy hits theaters March 22.
