Teaser Watch: Chloë Grace Moretz Travels Through Time in Dystopian Sci-Fi “The Peripheral”

"The Peripheral"

“Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are unveiling their next sci-fi epic, “The Peripheral,” a Prime Video series based on William Gibson’s novel of the same name. A newly released teaser introduces us to Flynne Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young woman in the American South who works at a 3D printing shop. “Your skills and personality are being sadly wasted in this den of imbecility,” she’s told.

As a side hustle, Flynne plays VR games for rich people. One night, she dons her headset and finds herself in futuristic London. “You’re inside what we call a Peripheral,” she’s warned. “You think this is a game, but it’s real. It just hasn’t happened yet.” The show’s synopsis helps provide some context: “Someone in London, 70 years in the future, has found a way to open a door to Flynne’s world.” It’s up to Flynne to figure out how and why these worlds are merged, and the spot suggests that she’s got a dangerous mission ahead of her, with explosions and weapons galore.

Moretz’s credits include the “Kick-Ass” franchise and “Suspiria.” Anne Sewitsky’s “White Night,” a thriller inspired by Jim Jones’ People’s Temple cult, is among her upcoming projects.

Joy made her feature directorial debut with 2021’s “Reminiscence,” a sci-fi pic about a private investigator of the mind.

“The Peripheral” premieres October 21.
