Teaser Watch: Get to Know the Real “Hillary” in Nanette Burstein’s Hulu Docuseries

"Hillary"

“I provoke strong opinions,” Hillary Clinton admits in an upcoming Hulu docuseries. A teaser for “Hillary” has dropped and features a few of the passionate viewpoints she’s inspired. “I want to vote for a woman, just not that woman,” a character says via voiceover. “She’s unlikeable because she’s unlikeable,” another posits. One commentator believes Clinton’s extreme intelligence reads as cunning.

As for Clinton herself, she’s adamant she’s an open book. “What you see is what you get,” the former Secretary of State and presidential hopeful stresses in the spot. She even recounts a question she once received, about what she wants on her tombstone: “She’s neither as good or as bad as some people say about her.”

Directed by Oscar-nominated “On the Ropes” helmer Nanette Burstein, “Hillary” includes interviews with Clinton, her family, friends, and journalists, as well as footage from the 2016 campaign. It is set to premiere at Sundance 2020 as part of the fest’s Special Events section.

“This was a fantastic opportunity,” Burstein said of the four-part docuseries. “Secretary Clinton gave me extraordinary access to her life story, which is utterly compelling.  Beyond that, given the particulars of her narrative, we were able to highlight the history of the women’s movement over the last fifty years, and especially what happens to women who aspire to take on roles traditionally inhabited by men.”

Clinton is set to make her executive producing debut with a TV adaptation of Elaine Weiss’ “The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote.” The story centers on the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, as well as the activists who fought for it. Clinton has appeared on-screen as herself on “Broad City” and “Madam Secretary.”

All episodes of “Hillary” will stream on Hulu beginning March 6.
