Issa Rae is reflecting on her past, present, and future in a new teaser for “Insecure.” Set to return to HBO October 24, the Emmy and Peabody-winning comedy’s fifth and final season sees Issa (Rae) considering her next move in the wake of breaking up with Lawrence (Jay Ellis) and making up with Molly (Yvonne Orji). “I just want to be drama-free and happy,” she explains. “I keep fronting everybody like I’m not scared of what’s next for me, but I am terrified. So, what am I supposed to do now?”
Rae created “Insecure” with Larry Wilmore. She’s received three Emmy nominations for her work on the series, and three for her work on “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” which she exec produces and has guest-starred on. “The Photograph” and “The Hate U Give” are among her other on-screen credits.
“The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” alumna’s upcoming slate includes “Nice White Parents,” an adaptation of the popular podcast about the influence of resourced white parents on Black and Brown students within the New York public school system, and “The Dolls,” a limited series based on real-life Christmas Eve riots caused by Cabbage Patch Kids.
