Sparse on dialogue and rich in atmosphere, a new teaser for “Polaris” introduces us to a girl trapped in a frozen wasteland. Kirsten Carthew’s apocalyptic fantasy is set in 2144, and follows Suni (Viva Lee), a human child who was raised by a polar bear.
When Suni escapes capture from a hunting party, she sets out on an epic journey through a dangerous landscape. The spot suggests that she has a wild ride ahead of her, full of blood, weapons, and screaming.
Carthew made her feature debut with 2016’s “The Sun at Midnight,” a look inside the unexpected friendship formed between a hunter and a teen rebel.
“Polaris” is making its world premiere on opening night of this year’s Fantasia Film Festival, which runs from July 14 to August 3.
