Lyn’s in charge of Vida now — and business seems to be booming. A new teaser for “Vida’s” upcoming third season has dropped, and sees the historic ne’er-do-well (Melissa Barrera) rising to the occasion and restoring her late mother’s bar to its former glory.
Lyn took over managing the bar from her older, generally more responsible sister, Emma (Mishel Prada), at the end of last season. Since then, Emma has been enjoying not being the boss and her new relationship with Nico (Roberta Colindrez). Lyn, meanwhile, has implemented mariachi karaoke and drunk Lotería, and even hosted a “queer-ceañera” (“Trademark!”). “I want people to get an experience they can’t get anywhere else in LA,” she says of Vida, which is named after her mother.
Unfortunately, not everyone in Boyle Heights is happy with Vida’s updates. Mari (Chelsea Rendon) and her fellow anti-gentrification activists, the Vigilantes, are doing all they can to piss off Lyn and Emma. “Nobody wants you, Coconut Barbie,” one activist yells at Lyn in the street.
The backlash shakes the sisters, but the clip suggests they’re determined to make Vida work. “I trust you,” Emma tells Lyn. “Don’t get distracted by bullshit.”
“Vida” is created by Tanya Saracho, who previously wrote for and co-produced “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Looking.” Ser Anzoategui, Elizabeth De Razzo, and Carlos Miranda are also among the cast.
Season 3 of “Vida” premieres April 26 on Starz.
