One of soccer’s biggest stars is looking to shape the cultural conversation. “Is there an opportunity to shift our country?” asks Megan Rapinoe in a new teaser for “Seeing America with Megan Rapinoe.” The special sees the Gold Medal-winning Olympian sitting down with U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, and comedian Hasan Minhaj to discuss critical issues facing Americans today.
“I’m a gay female athlete. I can’t ever just be one thing,” says Rapinoe, who has made headlines for her fight for equal pay.
Ocasio-Cortez emphasizes, “Injustice is not built to last.”
“We are grateful Megan Rapinoe would choose HBO as home for this conversation and look forward to more opportunities with her to continue this dialogue,” said Peter Nelson, Executive Vice President, HBO Sports. “Megan is fearless in speaking out on issues. Joined by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nikole Hannah-Jones, and Hasan Minhaj, this conversation embraces the challenges we collectively face.”
Rapinoe added, “It is an honor to host a show with a critical conversation between some of America’s most innovative thought leaders. I am so thankful to HBO for providing such a powerful platform for this important dialogue.”
HBO Sports will air “Seeing America with Megan Rapinoe” on August 1, from 10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on HBO. The special will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max.
