“What is happening to you is quite normal. When you become a mother, you feel like you are split in two. Bleed from the inside. You literally feel like your bones are breaking,” a pregnant woman is told in a new teaser for “Huesera.” Set to make its world premiere later this month at Tribeca Film Festival, Michelle Garza Cervera’s feature debut tells the story of Valeria (Natalia Solián), who is overjoyed to learn that she’s pregnant with her first child. What happens next is anything but normal. A sinister entity curses her, and Valeria is thrust into a world of dark magic.
Fights, fires, and injuries ensue. A group of witches may be Valeria’s “only hope for safety and salvation, but not without grave risk,” the film’s synopsis hints.
“Broad City” alumna Ilana Glazer co-wrote and starred in another recent horror pic tackling pregnancy, 2021’s “False Positive.”
“Huesera” starts screening at Tribeca Film Festival June 9. It will be released theatrically following a global festival run. Cervera co-wrote the film’s script with Abia Castillo.
