People “want to trust that the person telling them the truth about the world is an honest person.” At least, that’s what Reese Witherspoon’s “Morning Show” character emphasizes in the newly released teaser for Apple’s upcoming drama.
From showrunner Kerry Ehrin, “The Morning Show” takes its viewers behind the scenes into the world of morning news. Per Variety, the fictional series pulls inspiration from the rivalry between NBC’s “Today” and ABC’s “Good Morning America” recounted in CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter’s 2013 book “Top of the Morning.” Witherspoon stars alongside Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell.
Apple won “Morning Show” over with a straight-to-series two-season deal in 2017. Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, Aniston, and Ehrin serve as exec producers.
Ehrin’s production credits include “Parenthood” and “Bates Motel,” and “Friday Night Lights” is among her writing credits. She wrote “The Morning Show’s” pilot. On the Basis of Sex’s” Mimi Leder directed.
Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine have multiple projects on their plate, including an adaptation of Celeste Ng’s “Little Fires Everywhere” for Hulu. Witherspoon is set to lead the eight-episode series alongside Kerry Washington.
Aniston recently starred in and exec produced Netflix’s “Dumplin’.” Her forthcoming project, “The Fixer,” is in pre-production.
“The Morning Show” will hit Apple TV this fall.
