Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters are set to show a different side of Supes in a YA spinoff of “The Boys.” Currently untitled, the series was just given a “formal series greenlight” from Amazon Studios, per Deadline.
Jaz Sinclair, Lizzie Broadway, Aimee Carrero, , Reina Hardesty, and Maddie Phillips are among the project’s previously announced cast members. They’ll “portray young superheroes on the show set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes (run by Vought International),” according to the source. Described as an “irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities,” the spinoff is “part college show, part ‘Hunger Games’— with all the heart, satire, and raunch of ‘The Boys.'”
Eric Kripke, showrunner on “The Boys,” described Fazekas and Butters as “stone-cold geniuses.” He emphasized, “Much like ‘Mork & Mindy’ spun-off from ‘Happy Days’ — which is an insane and true fact — our spinoff will exist in the Vought Cinematic Universe, yet have a tone and style all its own. It’s our take on a college show, with an ensemble of fascinating, complicated, and sometimes deadly Young Supes.”
Fazekas and Butters are longtime collaborators whose previous credits include running “Marvel’s Agent Carter” and creating “Reaper.” Their upcoming slate includes “Hide,” a conspiracy thriller inspired by “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” that’s in the works at Peacock.
