The casting of an all-female Ghostbusters reboot has been the source of much speculation since the project was first announced. Now we finally have word on which women will be headlining the Paul Feig-directed project.
Melissa McCarthy has officially signed on to the feature, while Saturday Night Live’s former and current wonder women Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon are in negotiations with the studio. The trio is expected to sign on; it seems as though it is merely a matter of time before they’re locked in.
Both McCarthy and Wiig will be reuniting with Feig, who directed them in one of 2011’s biggest box office success stories, Bridesmaids. He has since re-teamed with McCarthy for 2013’s The Heat as well as the upcoming Spy, which is scheduled for release May 22.
Wiig’s latest picture, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, just premiered to rave reviews at Sundance. This morning Sony Pictures Classics confirmed that it has acquired the coming of age story, written and directed by Marielle Heller.
Jones and McKinnon are current SNL cast members. Both will appear in Masterminds, a comedy about a night guard who organizes a bank heist, alongside Wiig.
