‘The Middle’ Star Eden Sher Is Writing a Book for Kids

Get your Kleenex ready and fire up your imagination because it’s about to get “Emotionary.” “The Middle” star Eden Sher has signed a book deal with Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers, to publish “The Emotionary: A Dictionary of Words That Don’t Exist for Feelings That Do.”

The exquisite title is based on Sher’s distinct way of seeing the world. The actress feels that throughout her life, she’s suffered from dyscommunicatia, a condition defined by “the inability to articulate a feeling through words.” One day Sher decided that when this happened, she would simply make words up to capture her emotions.

“When I found out Penguin wanted to make ‘The Emotionary,’ I couldn’t believe I was going to get paid to be obsessive, neurotic and emotionally self-indulgent, all things I do for free,” commented Sher.

The Critics’ Choice Award winner added, “I feel super apraziative (amazed + appreciative, adj. in humble disbelief of another’s praise) of them for giving me this platform to share my crazy with the rest of the world, and I hope this book makes others feel at least somewhat solidated (solace + validated, adj. relieved from feeling wholly understood by another).”

“We knew this was a standout project as soon as we heard the subtitle: ‘A dictionary of words that don’t exist for feelings that do,’” said Razorbill senior editor Jessica Almon. “The Emotionary is your hilarious guide to that language — and we suspect a lot of emotional people out there will find it very useful.”

“The Emotionary” will be illustrated by Julia Wertz (“Drinking at the Movies.”) The book will be available October 18.
