Tina Fey is getting back into business with the Peacock. The “30 Rock” creator and star just received a straight to series, 13-episode order from NBC for her latest project, a comedy with Ted Danson. Variety confirmed the news.
Currently untitled, the series will star Danson (“The Good Place”) as “a wealthy businessman who runs for mayor of Los Angeles for all the wrong reasons. Once Danson’s character wins, he has to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his staff, and connect with his teenage daughter, all while controlling the coyote population,” the source summarizes.
The project hails from Fey and frequent collaborator Robert Carlock. The “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” creators will both write and produce.
“We are thrilled to be back home at NBC and writing for one of the network’s greatest stars of all time, Mary Steenburgen’s husband, Ted,” Fey and Carlock quipped.
Fey and Carlock most recently worked with NBC on “Great News.” The pair served as exec producers on the Tracey Wigfield-created sitcom, which ran for two seasons between 2017-2018. “30 Rock,” on which Carlock served as showrunner, scored NBC 16 Emmys over its seven-season run from 2006-2013.
Fey was last seen onscreen in “Wine Country,” Amy Poehler’s feature directorial debut. The comedy about long-time friends who travel to Napa Valley to celebrate a 50th birthday hit Netflix in May.
