Tony-winning actress Anika Noni Rose (“Dreamgirls”) just landed her own leading television role. Deadline has reported that Rose will play the lead in BET’s pilot “The Yard.” Rose stars as Eva, who Deadline describes as, “the newly elected President of the fictional college Georgia A&M. Upon her arrival, Eva finds a bold, brazen and diverse freshman class that promises to keep her hands full.”
Rose won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in “Caroline or Change.” She will soon appear in the upcoming remake of “Roots,” which will air on The History Channel, Lifetime and A&E simultaneously. The eight-hour miniseries premieres on May 30.
Rose has also recently dipped into producing. She optioned the TV/film rights to “Bone Street Rumba,” an urban fantasy book series by Daniel José Older, last January.
