The Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) is presenting four days of film in recognition of International Women’s Day. Now in its 18th edition, the Toronto fest’s lineup this year includes over 50 films directed by women from across the globe. A director Q&A will follow each screening.
FeFF 2020 will kick off March 5 with Sophie and Clément Guerra’s “The Condor & the Eagle,” a documentary that follows four Indigenous environmental leaders as they travel from the Canadian plains deep into the heart of the Amazonian jungle to address Climate Justice.
Semi Chellas’ “American Woman” will serve as the Opening Night Gala feature. The drama is inspired by Patricia Hearst’s kidnapping and tells the story of a Jenny (Hong Chau), an activist who is fleeing from the law after setting off bombs to protest of the Vietnam War.
The fest will host a retrospective of Deborah Kampmeier and screen three of her features including “Virgin,” an Elisabeth Moss-starrer that was named Best Feature Film at FeFF 2006. The pic centers on a teen who is pregnant despite having no recollection of having sex. She becomes convinced that she’s carrying the child of God. The fest’s Best In The Biz Tribute will be awarded to Kampmier, and Moss will receive an Honorary Maverick Award.
“This is a pivotal year for advancing gender equality worldwide, and our festival offers the perfect platform to further embrace this theme,” said FeFF Founder and Executive and Artistic Director Leslie Ann Coles.
FeFF will run from March 5-8 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. You can find more information about the fest and buy tickets over at FeFF’s website.
