The 17th annual Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) kicks off in just over a week. Featuring more than 75 films directed by women, this year’s edition of the fest will open with Heather Young’s feature debut, “Murmur.”
Penned by Young, the drama tells the story of an isolated, lonely woman who is sentenced to community service at an animal shelter after she’s convicted for impaired-driving. “Murmur” took home the FIPRESCI Prize for the Discovery Program at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Canadian writer, director, and producer Mina Shum will be celebrated as FeFF Honorary Director 2019. The Hong Kong-born filmmaker’s award-winning features include “Meditation Park,” “Ninth Floor,” and “Double Happiness.” “Frankie Drake Mysteries” and “Murdoch Mysteries” are among her recent small screen credits.
When we asked Shum her advice for other women directors she said, “Get a good, big, solid line of credit and keep making work.”
Saskia Rifkin’s “Mad?” serves as Closing Night Film. The pic sees an elderly artist admitted to a mental-health facility against her will.
FeFF runs from November 7-10. Check out the complete program on the fest’s website.
