A holiday gig makes a lasting impact in “Ladies in Black.” A trailer for adaptation of Madeleine St John’s bestselling novel of the same name has dropped, and it sees a 16-year-old learning to see the world — and her place in it — in a whole new way.
At home, Lisa’s (Angourie Rice) father (Shane Jacobson) tells her that no daughter of his will attend university. At work, she thrives — and her ambition is celebrated. When she lands a job at a chic department store, she finds kinship with the women she’s assigned to assist (Rachael Taylor and Alison McGirr). She also catches the eye of the manager (Julia Ormond) of a high-fashion boutique. “Perhaps you’ll be a business woman — there are worse things,” the business woman smilingly tells the teen.
Set in 1959 Australia, the dramedy will debut on Digital May 21. Sue Milliken co-wrote the screenplay.
