An overachieving highschooler struggling to come to terms with her best friend’s death finds a creative way to honor her in “The Never List.” When they were kids, Eva (Fivel Stewart, “Atypical”) and Liz (Brenna D’Amico, “Chicken Girls”) created alter egos: Vicky and Veronica. They made up a list of things they would never do — get into a fight, steal a car, be a rockstar — that Vicky and Veronica would.
A new trailer for the pic sees a tearful Eva visiting Liz’s gravestone. “I really miss you and I do not know how to let you go,” she confesses. Eva is “running for student class president while juggling a heavy academic schedule and planning the upcoming school dance,” and secretly “dreams of becoming a comic book artist – something she knows her helicopter mom (Keiko Agena, ‘Gilmore Girls’) would never support,” the film’s synopsis details. In an effort to break loose and pay tribute to Liz, Eva decides to check off all of the boxes on Vicky and Veronica’s to-do list.
Though it leads to plenty of fun, romance, and adventures, Eva’s plan is not without complications. “You’re just going to throw your future away? Do you think that’s what your best friend wanted?” her mom asks.
Directed by Michelle Mower (“The Preacher’s Sin”), “The Never List” opens in select theaters December 11. Ariadne Shaffer penned the script. Women account for 87 percent of above the line positions on the film and 67 percent of crew members are women, LGBTQ, and/or people of color.
