“I laid out 180 almonds, and everyday I’m going to just throw one away, and if there’s one almond left and I don’t feel any better, I’m just done. I’m out,” Abby McEnany tells her therapist in a new trailer for “Work in Progress.” The Showtime comedy sees the Chicago improv mainstay on the precipice of major change. The 45-year-old self-identified fat, queer dyke is explaining her high stakes plan to her therapist only to realize that she has died while Abby (McEnany) outlined her potential suicide.
Determined to “figure out how to be better,” Abby finds herself serving as as the “project” of a younger trans man whom she falls for after meeting at a restaurant. The transformative relationship seems to give Abby a fresh perspective on life.
“I’ve just always been terrified about what’s wrong with me,” she reveals. “Everything makes me anxious.”
McEnany, Lilly Wachowski (“The Matrix”), and Tim Mason (“Deja Vu”) serve as showrunners on “Work in Progress.” The series premieres December 8.
