Amandla Stenberg didn’t survive “The Hunger Games” but here’s hoping she has better luck in “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” another pic about a deadly game. Set in a remote mansion during a hurricane party, Halina Reijn’s latest is a satirical dark comedy that sees a group of rich 20-something friends turn against one another when a game goes horribly awry.
A trailer for the SXSW pic shows that it’s Sophie (Stenberg) who suggests that the group play Bodies Bodies Bodies, a game where one player is the murderer and the other players try to avoid being murdered. “Someone always ends up crying,” we’re told, but this time around, someone also ends up dying.
“The Eddy” and “The Hate U Give” are among Stenberg’s more recent credits.
Reijn, an actress whose on-screen credits include “Red Light” and “Valkyrie,” made her feature directorial debut with “Instinct,” the Netherlands’ submission to the best international feature film category at the 2020 Oscars.
“Bodies Bodies Bodies” hits theaters August 5. Maria Bakalova (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”), Myha’la Herrold (“Industry”), Chase Sui Wonders (“Generation”), and Rachel Sennott (“Shiva Baby”) round out the cast. Sarah Delappe penned the script.
