Amy Schumer offers a refreshingly honest look into her famously difficult pregnancy in “Expecting Amy.” The three-part HBO Max docuseries sees the multi-hyphenate embarking on a stand-up tour and prepping for a Netflix special while expecting for the first time. “I resent how much women have to suck it the fuck up and act like everything’s fine,” the “I Feel Pretty” star says in a new trailer for the project.
With “Expecting Amy,” Schumer shares footage of herself throwing up and visiting the ER, making no effort to glamorize her pregnancy. The “Inside Amy Schumer” creator suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, and experienced severe nausea and vomiting — and “Expecting Amy” doesn’t gloss over the gory details.
“Growing,” the stand-up special Schumer filmed when she was pregnant, dropped on Netflix last year.
Schumer’s upcoming slate includes “Love, Beth,” a half-hour comedy series from Hulu. The Emmy and Peabody winner is credited as creator, star, writer, director, and exec producer. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
“Expecting Amy” premieres on HBO Max July 9.
