A trailer has arrived for Andrea Arnold’s first documentary, “Cow,” an immersive portrait of a dairy cow named Luma. The film made its world premiere at last year’s edition of Cannes Film Festival.
The spot follows Luma as she walks through mud and grassy fields, feasts on hay, cares for her calf, observes fireworks, and is milked.
“I thought a cow would be interesting because they work so hard, getting pregnant and giving milk their entire lives. It’s a huge job they do,” Arnold told The Guardian. She explained, “I wanted to show a non-human consciousness. I was intrigued as to whether we would be able to see her consciousness if we followed her long enough.”
Arnold’s other features include “American Honey” and “Fish Tank.” She won the 2015 Oscar for best live-action short for “Wasp.”
“Cow” arrives in theaters and on VOD April 8.
