“Nobody knows that we are fun,” says Beanie Feldstein in a new trailer for “Booksmart.” Olivia Wilde’s feature directorial debut sees the “Lady Bird” breakout determined to convince her classmates that she and her best friend Amy (Kaitlyn Dever, “Last Man Standing”) aren’t just boring overachievers. They also know how to have a good time.
On the eve of their high school graduation, Molly (Feldstein) and Amy begin to fear that they’ve been letting life pass them by. They’ve spent so much time focusing on getting good grades and getting into good colleges that they haven’t gone to any good parties — or any parties at all. Their peers, meanwhile, have managed to achieve stellar SAT scores and make lots of memories outside of the classroom. So Molly and Amy resolve to catch up on all the fun they’ve missed out on in the span of one night.
“Booksmart” premiered at SXSW to rave reviews. Before hitting theaters May 24, the comedy will screen at San Francisco International Film Festival. Katie Silberman, Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, and Susanna Fogel penned the script.
Check out the trailer to see Amy, who’s been out for two years and has yet to kiss a girl, try to flirt with her crush, and to hear Molly’s hilarious confession about using an electric toothbrush to masturbate.
