Beyoncé’ is revisiting her iconic 2018 Coachella performance and the lead up to the headline-making set. Netflix just dropped a trailer for “Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé,” a documentary offering intimate access into the “Lemonade” artist and activist’s life as she prepares to pay homage to America’s historically black colleges and universities.
“What I really wanted to do is be a representative of my race, of the human race,” a voiceover from Maya Angelou explains in the spot. “I had a chance to show how kind we can be. How intelligent and generous we can be. I have a chance to teach and to love and to laugh.” The poet also offers her advice for the next generation.
We don’t hear directly from Beyoncé herself in the trailer, but we’re treated to lots of footage of her set and all of the work she put into it.
A 23-time Grammy winner, Beyoncé was recently named Entertainer of the Year at the NAACP Image Awards. She was also honored with the Vanguard Award at the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards alongside her frequent collaborator and husband JAY-Z in recognition of their LGBTQ allyship.
“Homecoming” hits Netflix April 17.
