“I love this work. I love this lifestyle,” we’re told in a new trailer for “Bitterbrush.” Emelie Mahdavian’s documentary follows Hollyn Patterson and Colie Moline, two range riders herding cattle in remote Idaho. The friends brave brutal weather conditions, everything from searing heat to blizzards, and face other dangerous work conditions on a regular basis. They’re totally off the grid, and rely entirely on one another and their dogs for companionship.
A selection of the 2021 Telluride Film Festival, “Bitterbrush” sees Patterson and Moline reflecting on their past, present, and future. The doc hits theaters on June 17 and On Demand June 24.
Mahdavian previously helmed “After the Curtain,” a 2016 portrait of four female dancers defying expectations and raising eyebrows in Tajikistan.
