Trailer Watch: Diane Lockhart Bounces Back in “The Good Fight”

“The Good Fight”: CBS

“Good Wife” fans, rejoice: it’s nearly time to be reunited with the inimitable Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), and a new trailer for the series’ long-awaited spinoff, “The Good Fight,” has been released. The legal drama will debut on CBS and CBS All Access, the network’s VOD site, on February 19. The following week, “The Good Fight” will begin streaming solely on CBS All Access. Baranski toplines the series, which picks up one year after the events of “The Good Wife” finale.

The spot kicks off with Diane announcing her resignation. As she prepares for retirement, she begins mentoring a Maia, a new lawyer (Rose Leslie, “Game of Thrones”) whose father is Diane’s friend and accountant. The women’s blossoming relationship changes course when Maia’s dad is charged in a headline-making financial scam — a scam that results in Diane losing all of her retirement savings.

“This is a nightmare,” Diane says in the clip. And the nightmare is far from over. She’s forced to put her retirement on hold, and her proposal to resume her work at Lockhart & Lee is denied. And things are even worse for Maia, who is being compared to the “most hated person in America.” The two join “Good Wife” character Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at a highly sought after law firm in Chicago as they fight to re-claim their lives.

Michelle and Robert King, creators and executive producers of “The Good Wife,” return as showrunners and exec producers of the new series.

Check out the trailer below. “The Good Fight” promises all of the drama “The Good Wife” offered — and maybe even more.
