Elle Fanning (“Mary Shelley”) and Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) cross paths in a post-apocalyptic world in “I Think We’re Alone Now.” “Has anyone told you you’re kind of a weird guy?” Grace (Fanning) asks Del (Dinklage) in a new spot for Reed Morano’s Sundance winner. “Yeah, but they’re all dead now,” he replies.
Convinced he was all by himself before encountering Grace, Del wasn’t even bothering to search for other survivors. The misanthrope was enjoying the solitude brought on by the end of the world.
The trailer hints that Grace and Del’s meeting may not be coincidence. “I have to tell you something,” she tells him. “It’s about where I came from.” The trailer includes other people’s voices, suggesting that she and Del are not in fact alone.
“I wanted to do a character study of two very fundamentally different people who are coping with the loss of humanity in very distinct ways and the effect they inevitably have on one another,” Morano told us.
The pic premiered at Sundance in January and took home a Jury Award for Excellence in Filmmaking.
According to IMDb, Morano is currently in post-production on “The Rhythm Section,” an assassin thriller starring Blake Lively. She’s also signed on to helm an untitled film about a narcissistic virtuoso violinist (Jeff Bridges) who is forced to move back in with his estranged wife (Diane Lane) after he’s diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
Morano made her directorial debut with 2015 Olivia Wilde-starrer “Meadowland.” She launched her career as a cinematographer with credits including “Frozen River” and “Kill Your Darlings.”
“I Think We’re Alone Now” opens in NY and LA September 14 and nationwide September 21.
