Convinced that “reason and compassion can win any argument better than violence,” Elle Fanning prepares to “remake Russia” in “The Great’s” sophomore season. A new trailer for the Hulu dark comedy sees Catherine the Great (Fanning) adjusting to life as a leader and mother-to-be post-coup. “I have a busy day running Russia — the country I just took from you,” she tells her husband (Nicholas Hoult), Peter III.
Catherine believes she’s safe from Peter until their baby is born, but the spot suggests that he’s dreaming up ways to retaliate and reclaim his power.
“Maleficent,” “Mary Shelley,” and “The Beguiled” are among Fanning’s film credits. Her upcoming slate includes Mélanie Laurent’s “The Nightingale,” an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s novel about sisters living in France at the onset of WWII.
“The Great’s” second season drops November 19. In addition to starring, Fanning exec produces the series.
