Netflix is betting big on Britannia.
The streaming site has launched a four-minute trailer for its most expensive production to date, a six-season series about Queen Elizabeth II that spans the 60 years since the monarch’s coronation in 1952.
Elizabeth will be played by Claire Foy ("Wolf Hall"), and each 10-episode season will be dedicated to one decade of the royal’s reign.
The trailer below focuses on Elizabeth’s ascent to the throne, with her love-besotted uncle, who abdicated for love, in the background. Her own (semi-arranged) marriage to Philip (Matt Smith) proves far more complicated, as he asks of his spouse with more than a hint of resentment, "Are you my wife or my queen?"
Wearing the crown, it turns out, isn’t as easy as it looks.
The first season of "The Crown" will be released in 2016.
