Trailer Watch: Isabella Carbonell’s “Dogborn” Follows Refugee Siblings Struggling to Survive

"Dogborn"

A trailer has arrived for Isabella Carbonell’s debut feature. Set to make its world premiere at Venice Critics’ Week, “Dogborn” tells the story of a refugee brother and sister living in Sweden. Homeless and desperate to build a better future, the twins get involved in the underworld of human trafficking.

“This isn’t just a job for anyone,” Sister (rapper Silvana Imam) and Brother (Philip Oros, “Deg”) are warned. “We’ll do whatever it takes,” the former insists.

“I wish for this film to have a genuine impact on anyone who sees it, regardless of background or prior insight into the world where ‘Dogborn’ takes place,” Carbonell said in a statement. “Whoever you are I want you to take this story with you. And preferably, when the end credits appear, you will feel slightly out of breath.”

Venice Critics’ Week will run August 31-September 10.
