Trailer Watch: It’s Not Easy (But It Sure Looks Like Fun) “To Be Takei”

In his 77 years, George Takei has lived many lives: Star Trek actor, radio announcer, (heterosexual) sex symbol, Japanese-American activist, LGBT activist, social-media icon, and, at long last, documentary subject.

Director Jennifer M. Kroot captures these public selves of Takei, along with the actor’s relatively private life with his husband-manager Brad. Billed as a love story between George and Brad, Kroot’s film is determined to make audiences exclaim — let’s all say it together — “Oh, my.”

To Be Takei opens August 22 in theaters and on VOD.
