A high school couple reunites over a decade after parting ways in “Lorelei.” After 15 years in prison, Wayland (Pablo Schreiber) reconnects with Dolores (Jena Malone), who is now a single mother of three. A trailer for Sabrina Doyle’s Tribeca drama sees the pair reminiscing about the past and trying to build a future together.
“We were going to move to LA after I finished high school,” Dolores reminds Wayland. “We were going to watch the sun go down on Sunset Boulevard and not go to sleep until it came up the next morning. And now I’m a maid with three kids and you’re an out of work felon.”
Despite developing a close bond with Dolores’ children, Wayland is emphatic that he’s not their “real” father. “Me living with you, tying your shoes, playing I Spy games — none of that makes me your dad,” he insists.
“They’re not your kids — but they should have been,” Dolores opines. “Because it wasn’t supposed to be like this.”
“Lorelei” marks Doyle’s feature debut. She also penned its script.
Asked why she was drawn to this story, Doyle told us, “Wanting to make a film about working-class people that shows their resilience, their inner lives, and their hidden dreams. I grew up in a working-class family, and feel I don’t often see the working classes depicted insightfully or tenderly on film.”
Malone’s credits include “Nocturnal Animals,” the “Hunger Games” franchise, and “Sucker Punch.”
