“I’m going to prove that people still need fairy godmothers,” Jillian Bell vows in a new trailer for “Godmothered.” The Disney+ comedy sees the “Bill & Ted Face the Music” actress playing Eleanor, an inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training who is determined to show the world that there’s still a need for the magic she and her co-workers bring. Their profession is facing extinction.
When Eleanor finds a mislaid letter from an unhappy 10-year-old girl, she decides to track her down to prove that fairy godmothers are capable of changing lives. She’s shocked to discover that Mackenzie, the “sad little girl” she’s looking for, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) who lost her husband several years ago.
Having been taught that “a glittery gown turns a frown upside down,” Eleanor believes she can make Mackenzie’s troubles go away by giving her a makeover and transforming her house. “Life isn’t always a fairy tale,” an unimpressed Mackenzie explains. “I know you want to help, but life isn’t as simple as happily ever after.”
Eventually, Eleanor seems to realize that she has just as much to learn from Mackenzie as she does to teach her. “I’ve been trapped in the fairy tale when the real world is so much more,” Eleanor admits. Mackenzie, meanwhile, may finally be starting to believe in magic.
Bell’s credits include “Sword of Trust,” “Rough Night,” and “Idiotsitter.”
“Arrested Development,” “Tag,” and “Wedding Crashers” are among Fisher’s credits.
Written by Kari Granlund (“Lady and the Tramp”) and Melissa Stack (“The Other Woman”), “Godmothered” arrives on Disney+ December 4. Sharon Maguire, best known for directing “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” helmed the pic.
