Joey King feels pressure to make her grandma’s dying wish a reality in a new trailer for “Summer ’03.” As she takes her final breath, Grandma (June Squibb, “Nebraska”) gives 16-year-old Jamie (King, “The Kissing Booth”) life advice. And not the kind about forgiving others, seeing the world, or enjoying the present. We hear her telling her granddaughter to learn how to “give a good” something, and while we don’t hear the rest of her sentence, the trailer hints that Jamie’s grandmother is talking about blowjobs.
“Who are you gonna lose your mouth virginity to?” Jamie’s friend asks. She adds, “People have been doing it for thousands of years. It’s in the bible.”
It’s actually at church Jamie meets Luke (Jack Kilmer, “The Nice Guys”), an altar boy she feels a special connection to. “I don’t believe in love at first sight,” she says, “but I do believe in seeing someone and knowing instantly that they’re going to matter to you.”
Check out the trailer to see Jamie’s friend calling out her erratic behavior, and how her mother (Andrea Savage, “I’m Sorry”) reacts to her daughter’s newfound interest in going to church.
“Summer ’03” marks Becca Gleason’s (“The Commute”) feature debut. She also penned the script for the pic.
King can currently be seen in horror film “Slender Man,” in theaters now. “Summer ’03” opens September 28.
