“There’s nothing to fear. Everything’s going to be fine,” says Juliette Binoche in a new trailer for “High Life,” Claire Denis’ English-language debut. Binoche is playing a doctor, but her prognosis can’t be trusted. A mad scientist, Dr. Dibs is leading a doomed and unethical mission in deep space: a group of death-row inmates have been enlisted as the crew aboard a spacecraft, and she’s experimenting on them.
As Monte (Robert Pattinson) explains, they are “scum” and “trash” — and someone had the bright idea of recycling them to “serve science.”
We’re told that Dr. Dibs has broken the laws of nature and lied to the crew. Check out the trailer to see why she’s accused of being “sick.”
“High Life” made its world premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.
Denis’ credits include “Beau Travail,” “35 Shots of Rum,” and “White Material.”
“High Life” hits theaters April 12.
