“I am going to die tomorrow,” says Kate Lyn Sheil in a new trailer for “She Dies Tomorrow.” “There is no tomorrow for me.”
Amy Seimetz’s feature tells the story of Amy (Sheil), a woman who wakes up one morning convinced she’s going to die the next day. As Amy spirals out of control, her delusions become contagious to those around her.
“I’m really freaking out,” a friend tells her. “I feel like you put this idea of dying into my head.”
Asked about her “starting point” for the movie, Seimetz told Film Comment, “I was trying to build something off this idea of a woman whose behavior goes from ‘sort of off’ to increasingly alarming. It was for me, in a personal way, about dealing with anxiety in general and what that looks like from the outside. From there, I was going back to this period of time when I was extremely anxious and realized that I was talking about my anxiety a lot with friends. The more I talked about it, the more I realized I was spreading this anxiety,” she recalled.
Best known for co-creating, directing, writing, and acting in Starz’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” Seimetz made her feature directorial debut with 2012’s “Sun Don’t Shine.” She later directed episodes of “Atlanta.” “Pet Sematary,” “Stranger Things,” and “The Killing” are among her acting credits.
Sheil’s credits include “High Maintenance, “House of Cards,” and “You’re Next.”
“She Dies Tomorrow” was originally slated to screen at this year’s SXSW fest, which was cancelled due to COVID-19. The pic hits drive-in theaters July 31 and On Demand August 7.
