Natalie Portman is bringing it “back to where it all began” in a new trailer for “Vox Lux.” The spot takes us along as controversial pop sensation Celeste (Portman) travels back in time. Now 31, the singer battles bad press, addiction, and family drama, but the spot introduces us to a younger and decidedly less jaded Celeste (Raffey Cassidy, “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”).
We see the teen take the stage at a vigil following a violent tragedy that left her injured and others dead. She and her sister (Stacy Martin, “High-Rise”) are performing a song inspired by the life-changing event — a song that launches Celeste to fame. The trailer includes footage of Celeste as she grows up in the industry under the guidance of her manager (Jude Law). It hasn’t been an easy journey.
“I keep feeling like big moments get stolen away from me,” present-day Celeste tells her daughter (also played by Cassidy) as she preps for her big comeback tour. “Sometimes you just get kicked when you’re down.”
“Vox Lux” premiered at Venice in September and opens in theaters December 7.
