Trailer Watch: Nathalie Emmanuel Finds Love Abroad in Mindy Kaling’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral”

"Four Weddings and a Funeral"

Nathalie Emmanuel kicks off her London vacation with a rom-com-worthy meet cute in a new trailer for “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” Some sassy banter with a stranger (Nikesh Patel) at the airport — whom she later describes as looking like “Ryan Gosling dipped in caramel”– leads to sparks flying. The hitch? She discovers that he’s dating one of her best friends.

Created by Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton, the limited Hulu series sees “Game of Thrones” alumna Emmanuel playing Maya, a communications director for a New York senatorial campaign who heads abroad to reconnect with her college BFFs (Rebecca Rittenhouse, Brandon Mychal Smith, and John Reynolds) and attend one of their weddings.

“Have you ever had the feeling that you’ve gone down the wrong path?” Maya asks in the spot. “Like somewhere along the line you’ve made a bad choice and now it’s too late to go back?”

Based on Hulu’s summary of the series, she won’t have much time for ruminating amidst loads of drama. “Relationships are forged and broken, political scandals exposed,” the streamer hints, “London social life lampooned, and love affairs are ignited and doused.”

Kaling can currently be seen in Nisha Ganatra’s “Late Night,” in theaters now. Inspired by her experiences as a writer on “The Office,” the comedy centers on a late-night host (Emma Thompson) hiring her first female writer (Kaling). Kaling penned the script.

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” is inspired by the 1994 rom-com of the same name. The series drops July 31.
