Claire Underwood isn’t pulling any punches in the final season of “House of Cards” — which is pretty much par for the course. A trailer for Season 6 has dropped and sees the former First Lady taking to her new role as President quite well.
“The reign of the middle-aged white man is over,” Claire (Robin Wright) announces in the spot. “I’m not going to be told what to do anymore.” That’s for damn sure. Her husband died early in her tenure as Commander in Chief, and the hits just keep coming: other people close to her keeping showing up dead, she’s facing internal political battles with Bill Shepherd (Greg Kinnear) and Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), and only narrowly avoids an assassination attempt.
But, Claire being Claire, she doesn’t scare easily and she’s not one to back down from a challenge. “It’s going to be different for you and me,” she promises the nation during a speech. Hallelujah.
Wright is taking the lead on “House of Cards” after Kevin Spacey was cut loose in the wake of several allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.
In 2016 Wright fought for — and apparently won — pay parity with Spacey. However, last year news surfaced that she did not receive equal pay after all. Wright reportedly received $420K per episode, as compared to Spacey’s $500K. “I don’t think I’m getting paid the same amount,” Wright said. “I really don’t like being duped. It’s such a male-dominant workforce still. There’s a conditioning. And changing the condition of men is what needs to happen.”
Wright has received five consecutive Emmy nominations for portraying Claire. She won a Golden Globe for her performance in 2014. Wright has also directed 10 episodes of “House of Cards.” The actress’ recent screen credits include “Wonder Woman” and “Blade Runner 2049,” and she’s set to appear in “Wonder Woman 1984.”
The final season of “House of Cards” will begin streaming on Netflix November 2.
