“I am for truth no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it’s for or against,” says Octavia Spencer in the first trailer for “Truth Be Told.” The upcoming Apple TV+ series sees the Oscar winner playing Poppy Parnell, a true crime podcast host who revisits an old case after new evidence surfaces.
Warren Caves (Aaron Paul) has served nearly 19 years in prison after being convicted of murder. By her own account, Poppy helped “seal his fate” with a series of articles suggesting he was accountable. Now she’s not so sure about what happened, and is left wondering if “there’s an innocent man in prison” and she helped “lead that charge.”
Check out the trailer to see Poppy re-open the case and visit Warren in prison.
Spencer won an Oscar for “The Help” and received nods for “Hidden Figures” and “The Shape of Water.” “Luce,” “Ma,” and “Instant Family” are among her recent credits.
“Truth Be Told” is based on Kathleen Barber’s 2017 novel “Are You Sleeping.” The thriller is created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (“The Good Wife”) and drops on Apple TV+ December 6.
