“I have been haunted my entire life trying to understand the impossible,” says Rosamund Pike in a new trailer for Marjane Satrapi’s “Radioactive.” The biopic sees the Oscar-nominated “Gone Girl” actress playing Marie Curie, a physicist and chemist who made history as the only person to win the Nobel Prize in two different scientific fields.
Underestimated by the scientific community, Marie vows to prove that science is changing, and suggests that her innovative work will speak for itself. The spot shows her researching radioactivity, a discovery that she believes could cure cancer, but as the footage shows, her work is also used to devastating effect in war.
“A Private War” and “Beirut” are among Pike’s recent credits. Her upcoming slate includes Amazon fantasy epic “The Wheel of Time.”
Satrapi made her directorial debut with “Persepolis,” an adaptation of her acclaimed graphic novel of the same name. Her other features include “The Voices” and “Gang of the Jotas.”
“Radioactive” made its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and hits UK theaters March 20. No word on a U.S. release date yet.
