“You’re going to pay for what you did,” Sandra Bullock is told in a new trailer for “The Unforgivable.” From director Nora Fingscheidt, the Netflix drama tells the story of Ruth (Bullock), a woman who can’t escape her past. Ruth served a two-decade sentence in prison for a violent crime — the details of which the spot doesn’t provide — and upon release she hopes to reconnect with Katie, her estranged younger sister. Not everyone is eager for them to reunite.
Questions arise about what exactly Katie would “gain” by meeting Ruth now. “You are not a victim,” Ruth is told. Still, she’s undeterred, and insists that she doesn’t “quit — not on Katie.”
Bullock won an Oscar for “The Blind Side” and received a nod for “Gravity.” “Bird Box” and “Ocean’s Eight” are among her more recent credits.
Fingscheidt’s last feature, “System Crasher,” was Germany’s submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Oscars. The story of a nine-year-old girl in the welfare system took home eight Lolas at the German Film Awards.
Written by Hillary Seitz, Courtenay Miles, and Graham King, “The Unforgivable” launches in select theaters November 24 and on Netflix December 10. Two-time Oscar winner Viola Davis co-stars. In addition to starring in “The Unforgivable,” Bullock is also a producer on the pic.
