“Please, never forget me,” a woman begs of her sister in a new trailer for “Invisible Life.” Brazil’s submission to the 2020 Oscars’ Best International Film category kicks off in 1950 Rio de Janeiro and tells the story of Eurídice (Carol Duarte) and Guida (Julia Stockler), inseparable sisters living at home with their conservative parents.
Eurídice and Guida part ways while pursuing their dreams — the former is determined to become a renowned pianist, and the latter longs for true love. We see Eurídice announcing plans to apply to a prestigious conservatory in Vienna and Guida traveling to Greece and returning home pregnant.
“In a dramatic turn, they are separated by their father and forced to live apart,” the film’s synopsis hints. “They take control of their separate destinies, while never giving up hope of finding each other.”
In addition to being Brazil’s Oscar pick, “Invisible Life” won the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes 2019 and is nominated for Best International Film at the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
The pic hits select theaters December 20.
