Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray are reuniting for the first time since 2003’s “Lost in Translation” in an unexpected format: a Christmas special for Netflix. While Coppola’s films consistently show her taste (and aptitude) for dry humor, “A Very Murray Christmas” marks her first full-fledged comedy — and a musical comedy, no less.
Murray seems like the perfect leading man for a Coppola-directed comedy, and happily there’s a huge supporting female cast, including Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Maya Rudolph, Jenny Lewis and Miley Cyrus
Written by Coppola, Murray and Mitch Glazer, “A Very Murray Christmas” will once again see the sad-faced comedian playing an actor. This time around, he’ll be portraying a star preparing for a live show that will be broadcast internationally. A blizzard rolls into town making production and scheduling a whole lot more complicated. “Tonight will go down as the greatest night in history,” Murray promises his co-stars in the newly released teaser. The footage shows singing, dancing and cake — all key ingredients in the making of legendary evenings.
“A Very Murray Christmas” will be available to stream on Netflix beginning December 4.
